About the Survey
Each fall, the Administrators of Internal Medicine (AIM) and Association of Professors of Medicine (APM) jointly conduct a survey of medical school based departments of internal medicine. Annually, the survey asks about the size and funding of departments as well as standards for financial performance of clinical operations. Biennially, the survey asks questions about the adminstrative structure of the department and collects data on the salaries of key administrative personnel. In 2008, for the first time, the survey also collected salary data for department chairs and other key leaders.
To improve the value of the survey for respondents, who automatically receive survey results, department statistics are reported in the aggregate and by individual responding institution. Salary data are only reported in the aggregate when five or more individual salaries are available.
The AIM Data Committee is responsible for the survey. To suggest questions for the survey, please email policy@im.org.
