As medical educators we are often tapped to lead a variety of initiatives in our departments and medical schools. Successful educational and programmatic innovations and oversight require managerial skills including finance, planning, and cost and operations analysis. In our roles as medical education leaders (clerkship, residency, and fellowship directors, program managers, vice chairs of education, vice chairs of quality, designated institutional officers, and chairs of medicine) we witness every day the challenge of working within a complex healthcare system. The AAIM Executive Leadership program provides an intensive immersion into executive leadership that will help you develop your skills to become a more effective leader of innovation and change within your institution.
The course material is challenging and definitely takes your full attention during the week. I found the intense learning atmosphere invigorating. The instructors are dedicated to ensuring that you understand the material and that its relevance to your current work is made explicit. You will work in small groups with a few colleagues you may already know and many colleagues you will come to know. Everyone brings his/her unique perspective and experience - you will learn from the instructors and from one another. The program runs very smoothly (operations experts at the helm!) and there is time to explore and enjoy Cambridge with your colleagues. Just make sure you do your homework!
