Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award

About the Award

The AAIM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award was created to recognize academic internal medicine physicians, administrators, and physicians-in-training whose work substantially advances diversity, equity and inclusion through systems which ensure high quality care for all patients. The award is presented to an individual or team who promotes and champions diversity, equity, and inclusion in their department of medicine. The award is presented during Academic Internal Medicine Week.

Nomination Criteria

Open to any eligible nominee regardless of specialty or AAIM affiliation, the award recognizes an individual’s or team’s meritorious achievement in any of the following areas, or a combination thereof:

  • Supporting physicians, administrators, and physicians-in-training in academic internal medicine to work collaboratively with colleagues of diverse backgrounds within and across institutions to advance high quality and equitable care for all patients.
  • Creating an inclusive environment for all physicians, administrators, and physicians-in-training.
  • Equipping internal medicine medical educators with the ability to prepare the next generation of physicians with the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to effectively care for diverse populations.
  • Stimulating research that supports high quality care and mitigation of health disparities.

The nominee must not be the recipient of the AAIM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award or AAIM Special Recognition Award in the past three award years.

Please note, if a nominee is a current board, council, or executive committee member at the time the award recipient is being selected, they are not eligible for award consideration.

Nomination and Submission Information

All submissions are completed online and require:

  • Responses to award nomination criteria questions, which are based on the award’s nomination criteria.
  • Upload of the nominee’s CV or resume. Please consider highlighting the sections that illustrate the nominee’s qualifications for the specific award.

Selection Process

  • The nomination is reviewed, evaluated, and selected by the AAIM Board of Directors. The evaluation and selection of the nominee is based on the responses to the award nomination criteria questions and the nominee’s CV or resume.
  • All nominations may be considered for the year they are nominated as well as the following two years. An updated CV or resume is required for nominations to be reconsidered.

Special Recognition Award

About the Award

The AAIM Special Recognition Award is presented to an individual who has contributed most to helping the Alliance meet its mission which "fosters the advancement of learning, discovery, and caring by enhancing the professional growth of academic internal medicine faculty, administrators and physicians-in-training." The award is presented during Academic Internal Medicine Week.

Nomination Criteria

  • The nominee must be a current or former member of AIM, APDIM, APM, ASP, CDIM, or MPPDA.
  • The nominee must not be the recipient of the AAIM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award or AAIM Special Recognition Award in the past three award years.

Please note, if a nominee is a current board, council, or executive committee member at the time the award recipient is being selected, they are not eligible for award consideration.
