The Alliance conducts annual, semiannual, and biannual research surveys of its membership with oversight from volunteer committees. Survey audiences include, for example, internal medicine (IM) residency program directors, residency and fellowship program administrators, core clerkship and site directors, and clerkship administrators at medical schools and teaching hospital sites. Additionally, Alliance volunteer groups such as committees, task forces, or other bodies conduct periodic research surveys as warranted, with technical support from Alliance Surveys staff when appropriate.
Research survey results are used to help professionals in IM undergraduate and graduate medical education better understand and advance their profession by 1. informing organizational policies and initiatives, 2. publishing the results in scholarly journals, and 3. presenting those results at professional conferences. For more information (including select summary results and presentations) about specific surveys, please visit the APDIM, CDIM, and Other AAIM Surveys pages linked to in the left-hand sidebar.
The following table presents a schedule for recently completed and upcoming Alliance research surveys, including the populations being surveyed. Please check back periodically to track the status of those surveys and their results. Questions about Alliance research surveys and data gathering may be directed to surveys@im.org.
